Comment: 

This report from Oklahoma State University shows how long it takes to reach even the testing stage. Whenever you read that some system will be ready for testing by December 31, 1998, think about this project.

Additional note: one programmer interviewed said that the Year 2000 Problem will still be around as late as 2007. (This assumes, of course, that there is no economic collapse and breakdown in major systems, such as phones.)

This is not a short-term problem.
