Comment:

So, you think its just a matter of software. Well, it's not. It's also a matter of noncompliant chips built into systems that control the physical operations of banks. So says the Federal Reserve, which warns:

* * * * * * * * *

Many institutions have started to examine their processing systems, data bases, and the hardware and software that support the processing environment. Other institutions are looking at the impact on their physical environment (elevators, vault, heating, communication, and security systems), and working with their customers, service bureaus, processors, and clearing houses. Regardless of where you start your project, all of these environmental and processing hardware and software projects will need to be completed in order to conduct business as usual on January 3, 2000, the first business day of the new year.
