Comment: 

Congressman Stephen Horn, a former college professor, has issued mid-term grades to 24 U.S. government agencies. Some key agencies are in very poor shape. This TECH WIRE story (Sept. 16) provides a box chart.

Treasury got a D-. Teasury is where the money is.

Unless the 24 specified agencies comb the millions of lines of software code they have among them -- and change any errant date fields -- they run the risk of a spectacular government computer crash when the clock strikes midnight on Dec. 31, 1999.
