Comment:

Bad news for the state of Florida: it's behind, and the legislature has not come up with the money requested to fix y2k.

The state's agencies have juggled their budgets to free up $40 million to fix their Year 2000 problems, but figure they need between another $50 million to $110 million to complete fixing the 41 million lines of code that, as of last month, have been identified as not being able to handle the Year 2000.

But the Legislature has voted to make only $15 million available for the job, leaving a shortfall estimated so far as being between $35 million and $95 million.

Just how the agencies will manage to cope is an open question.
