The SEATTLE TIMES (Nov. 2) alerted readers to the problem of data corruption in (briefly) compliant computers.

Unless the two parties that exchange data electronically are year-2000 compliant, either could become easily contaminated by the noncompliant system, a General Accounting Office director told Congress earlier this year.

To combat this, organizations must examine all internal data exchanges, notify outsiders of potential problems and, if necessary, develop ways to maintain the integrity of replaced or converted systems and the data within them.
