Ed Yourdon made the comparison between New York City and Beirut if programmers can't complete their repairs. But the y2k repair industry has the marks of working on a project that can't be completed. "First-level managers know their project is doomed but they can't talk publicly about it." Businesses are not funding their IT departments sufficiently. If this continues, he says, programmers should quit.
