Is there really a disaster looming?
"It's impossible to estimate," says John Koskinen, a special assistant to President Clinton, managing federal efforts to correct Year 2000 (Y2K) nightmare scenarios.
How bad the disruption?
On balance, the Y2K czar predicts, "there won't be major disruptions in everyone's everyday life."
Yet, he cautions, "There is some basis in fact for saying . . . there will be outcomes that will be extremely difficult for the economy and extremely difficult for people."
